Getting Creative With Ribbon from Really Reasonable Ribbon

Oh, happy day crafters!  It's Karen here today; and let me just say that I don't know about the rest of you, but I tend to get in the rut of making cards almost all of the time.  OK, maybe an occasional mini album here and there, but for the most part......LOTS of cards.  So, I thought I'd try something different, and I encourage you all to do the same.  It's almost Christmas, which is the perfect time to treat yourself to some new ribbons and trims from the AWESOME selection at Really Reasonable Ribbon to get you started.

My card was made with some lovely patterned papers which I machine stitched for that "home-spun" feel.  Then, I added a length across and a bow made from the gorgeous Sun Rose Seam Binding.  By the way, our Seam Binding comes in a rainbow of gorgeous colors.  At the top, I added some paper strips with a sentiment, and to the top right you can see a loop of the amazing Natural Wire-Edged Pink and Burlap Trim.  I can't even begin to tell you how beautiful this ribbon is; and.....again, it comes it several amazing colors.

For this little spool decoration (my adventurous "something new"), I used a vintage wooden spool that I wrapped in patterned paper and I tied some Deep Pink Solid Baker's Twine.  I stuck a paper straw in the hole, and topped it with a coordinating embellishment.  I added a nice big fluffy bow made from the lovely Sun Rose Seam Binding, and behind the embellishment, you will see another decorative length of the beautiful Natural Burlap Wire-Edged Pink Stitched Wide Ribbon.
You know, most husbands don't know what we really want for Christmas.  SO.....to avoid getting another fluffy pink bathrobe or a new vacuum cleaner, why not leave a subtle little note on his dresser that says something like this...."Christmas Ideas - Really Reasonable Ribbon Gift Certificate or RRR Ribbon Club".  Hey, a girl needs her ribbon, right?  Just a thought.
Happy crafting, everyone!

This Card is to DYE For! By Jenn Cochran

Hello and Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.  Hope everyone here in the US is enjoying their day off and eating some yummy food!  Have a fabulous day!

Today I (Jenn) am sharing with you a card I made using alcohol ink dyed seam binding and Wild Orchid Berry Sprays from Really Reasonable Ribbon.

I sprayed my White Seam Binding and my White Berry Sprays with Spectrum Noir Alcohol inks.  It is super easy to do with a eBrush Airbrush system.  I also colored my rhinestones with the same technique.

You can customize any white or light colored ribbon *I prefer white* using this technique.  It really gives your cards and projects the appearance of having custom made ribbon to match all the colors in your color scheme.

Thanks for visiting!  Don't forget to pop on over to the RRR website and catch the current sale going on NOW.

Snow Angel Ornament with Really Reasonable Ribbon

For our 4-day Thanksgiving SALE post, please click HERE or scroll down to the next post.

Today I have a really cute ornament to share that I made up quick with some gorgeous blue, white and silver ribbons from Really Reasonable Ribbon.  I think I am going to make up a bunch of these little cuties to help fill up my snowflake tree this year so that it will be really festive and happy.

For this project you will need these ribbons from the RRR Store:  White Satin ribbon, white organza dot ribbon, metallic silver string and blue snowflake ribbon.  And a cute button from the white Button Bonanza assortment.

You will also need a wooden base to make your angel that you can get from a hobby store and Deco Art Americana paint in white, tan, pink and black.  To make her you will paint her first and let her dry really good and then glue a silver snowflake on the front of her dress.  Then I added a big bow that I created for her wings and a smaller one for the front.  To finish her and make it look like she has a halo I added another one of the silver snowflakes on the back of the wings.

I hope this gave you a little bit of inspiration to make something fun for the holidays ahead and be sure and take advantage of the 4-day sale going on to stock up for your projects!!

Have a very Happy and Joyous Thanksgiving with your family and friends!!

Thanksgiving Mini Album Tutorial

Hello, Ribbon Lovers!  It's Kathy here with a Thanksgiving Mini Album tutorial to share with you.  Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, and I wanted to squeeze in just one more Thanksgiving project before the day passed.  As my gift to you, I've created a photo step out so you can make this album yourself if you're so inclined.  All my ribbons for this project are from the gorgeous Rustic Ribbon Assortment.  I have found that these are perfect for Autumn themed projects, Thanksgiving projects and Christmas projects, too.

https://www.reasonableribbon.com/item_images/november2014lge.gif

You'll see these throughout the mini album, and I'll try to add individual links, too.  This is a long post, with lots of photos, so go grab a hot cuppa and a snack and then we'll get started.

Here's the finished product.  this hardcover accordion style mini measures 3 3/4" x 6 1/4" and was made with Authentique Gratitude paper.
The album is closed with a ribbon that runs under the medallion on the front and around the back of the book.  This Rust Shimmer Satin is the perfect color for this paper.  I've layered it with Turftan Brown Random Dots Grosgrain to pickup on the dots in the designer paper.

When opened, this front panel pulls out to reveal all the pages inside.  My cute little pilgrim is from Polly's Paper Thanksgiving Creativity Kit.  I treated him with UTEE to make him look like an epoxy sticker.  You also see my favorite Natural Jute String and lots of Brown Mulberry Sweetheart blossoms.  You'll find these throughout the album.

The back side of the accordion opens so that you can add photos to the album.

Now, here are the steps for making your own album.

Choose your paper and ribbons and any embellishments you want to use.  You'll need 2 sheets of 8 1/2" x 11" cardstock and some manila tags.

Run 1/4" wide Scor-Tape down the 8 1/2" edge of one sheet of cardstock.

Peel away the backing tape and join the two sheets together, lining them up along the 1/4" tape line.

Score the long side (22") of your cardstock every 3 1/2" and trim away the excess at the end.

Turn your paper 90 degrees to the 8 1'2" edge and score at 6".

Fold this flap up.  This will form your pockets.  Then accordion fold the long side from left to right starting with a valley fold, then a mountain fold, then valley, etc. until each 3 1/2" panel is folded.

Fold the pocket flap down and run glue along each end and on either side of all the creases, as seen above. Then fold the pockets back up, and burnish with a bone folder to seal.

This is  what your paper should look like at this point.  Use a circle punch to add thumb holes to each pocket panel.
Cut one 3 1/4 x 6 1/8" panel of designer paper for the first page.  Glue it down.

Cut six 3 1/4" x 4 1/4" panels of designer paper to line the top of the pockets.  Center these panels on the top portion of each page and glue down.

Cut six 3 1/4" x 2 1/4" panels of designer paper to cover the pocket fronts of each page.  Cut the thumb hole to match and glue down.

Cut two pieces of chipboard (I used an old cereal box) to 3 5/8" x 6 1/4".  These will be your covers.

Cut another piece of chipboard to 1/2" x 6 1/4".  This will be your spine.

Cut a 9" x 7" piece of designer paper to be your decorative cover.

Cut an 8" x 6 1/8" piece of designer paper to be your inside cover liner.

Lay your 9" x 7" piece of designer paper face down and center your chipboard covers and spine.  Glue them down using strong white glue, Scor-tape or double stick adhesive.

Fold the paper over the edges of the chipboard covers, creasing with a bone folder.  Open up and trim the 4 corners, as seen in the photo.

Glue the edges in place, as shown above.

Burnish the edges with a bone folder to seal.  Add glue to the spine, and on the back side of your 8" x 6 1/8" liner, then center over the book cover and glue down.

Burnish with your bone folder, and crease the edges that run along the spine.  When you close your book cover, it should look like this:

I inked the edges of my book with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.  Now you can run 1/2" scor-tape in the center of your book from the front right edge, around the spine, and onto the back cover all the way to the center edge.  Cut an 18" piece of ribbon and secure it to this strip of Scor-Tape.  This becomes your cover closure.  Now, you can decorate the cover.

To secure your inner pages to the book, glue the back side of the last folded page to the right hand side of the inside book cover.  You'll be able to open the book, accordion style.
See how the last page on the left is glued to the inside of the cover?  Then you just collapse your pages, decorate them and your book is finished.  Phew!
I know this was a long post, but several of you have asked me to do a tutorial on this sort of accordion fold mini album.  I hope you found this helpful, and will be inspired to make one of your own design.  If I can help you in any way, just give me a shout and I'll be happy to answer any questions you might have.  It's a fun little project, and one that will look great opened up on my buffet table this year.  I wish you all very  happy, healthy and thankful holiday with your friends and families!
Thanks for stopping by!

Cheerio,

kathy
